Mission Statement
More students are enrolled in First-Year courses (Gen. Chem, GOB, Liberal Arts, etc.) than in any other chemistry courses. There is tremendous demand among teachers throughout the world for increasing the understanding of research, development, implementation, assessment and dissemination in this area. The column on First-Year Chemistry is designed to permit the following:

  • A specific focus on issues of concern to first-year chemistry teachers;
  • A forum for extending the normal limitations of the print medium via the on-line format;
  • A relatively quick turn-around via the preparation of publication ready manuscripts and a dual print/on-line format;
  • A forum to publish short “communications” of exciting results of on-going research, which can then be followed in the future with summary papers (as is done in other chemistry disciplines);
  • Opportunities for authors to publish works in multiple languages.
