Edward J. Walsh who teaches at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania is the new Book/Media Review Editor for the Journal. Ed is one of several applicants for the position that was announced in early summer. His appointment is effective immediately.

Walsh will work with a team of associate editors who will attempt to bring you wider scope than just books (all media!) and books other than just textsbooks about teaching and books about science in general. The editors also plan post-use reviews and comparative reviews. But these plans are really Ed's story, and he will tell it in these pages next month.

New Subscription Fulfillment Agent

A new subscription fulfillment agent has been chosen: Publisher's Information Center (PIC) of Vineland, New Jersey. Beginning in December, PIC will handle the Journal account, replacing Mack Printing Co.; as we mentioned last month, Mack is getting out of the fulfillment business. If your subscription ends soon, your renewal notice will automatically be sent by the new agent. You should not notice much difference except that the form has been updated and looks a bit different. If you need PIC's address, you will always be able to find it in the masthead and on the carrier sheet inside the plastic sleeve in which your Journal is mailed.

Search for a Business Manager

The announcement of a search for a Publications Coordinator to act as the Journal's business manager appears again in this issue on page A304. The deadline for applications is January 1, 1997.

Correction: Journal Index

Several people who purchased copies of the 4th Decennial Index to the Journal (1969-1978, published in 1993) have pointed out that the subject entries under "C" end with Chrysanthemic Acid. Surely there must have been more topics under "C", such as copper and cobalt, to name two very obvious examples!

The problem of what we have called the "missing Cees" has now been fixed. The missing entries have been recovered and edited and a correction/addition to the 4th Decennial Index has been printed and is available. This correction will be included in shipments to future purchasers.

If you have already purchased the index, however, you need a copy of this correction. While a concerted effort is underway to notify purchasers, we may miss you if your address has changed. Symposium to Honor J. J. Lagowski

The symposium, "Press On Regardless: J. J. Lagowski and the Journal of Chemical Education" will be held at the American Chemical Society 1997 Spring National Meeting, to be held in San Francisco. The symposium is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, April 15.

New Policy for Reporting Lab Experiments

The Journal will revise and update the way laboratory experiments are handled. Details are on page A310-311in the Journal, but briefly our aim is to make this very valuable section of the Journal even more useful to readers. Labs will be divided into two parts: background information, a rationale, a general description of what is done, why, for what audience, with what equipment and chemicals, and with what success will be printed in the Journal. Then an actual lab write-up will appear on JCE Online, ready for you to see all of the author's details. If you do not have World Wide Web access, we will mail this information to you.
