The cover was inspired by the molecular structure of ferritin. In Analysis of Iron in Ferritin, the Iron-Storage Protein, Donlin, Frey, Putnam, Proctor, and Bashkin describe a general chemistry experiment in which students explore both the iron-release process and the structure of this iron-storage compound.

The structures used on the cover and in the article were rendered by Regina Frey and Chris Clark using Swiss-PDB Viewer and POV-Ray. Insight II was used to generate the original

Chemistry Teacher Connection

For only $40/year, it offers an online-only subscription to CLIC along with membership in the Division of Chemical Education, normally $65/year.
