News from Journal House
Recent Releases, JCE Software
The following issues have been released by
JCE Software. Copies have been shipped to those who ordered them.
The Journal Goes to the BCCE
Read the announcement on pp 697-698 about the
16th BCCE to be held in summer 2000 and you will learn
that Monday, July 31, is The Day of the Ice Cream Social.
The sponsors of this social event (to be held following the
evening demo program) are 2YC3 and
JCE. We hope to make this a venue for meeting new people, especially newcomers to
the conference. And of course there will be ice cream and
toppings, custom dipped by 2YC3 officers and members as
well as Journal editors and staff; it has been rumored that
some list experience as soda jerks on their résumé!
The Journal will have a booth in the exhibit area.
Be sure to stop by and check out our newest video. We will
even give you guidance about building it into PowerPoint
presentations.

molecular biology, from all regions of the world. This international
prize will be awarded for the most outstanding thesis in the
general area of molecular biology as described in a
1000-word essay. The grand prize winner will receive $25,000 and
have his or her essay published in Science. Regional award

Mathematics on the Web
The first-ever MathML conference, "MathML and
Math on the Web," will be held October 20-21, 2000 on the
campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The conference will present current research and applications
involving MathML, an XML application for describing
mathematical notation and capturing both its structure and its
content. The primary goal of MathML is to enable
mathematics to be served, received, and processed on the World Wide
Web, just as HTML has enabled this functionality for text.
Authors are requested to submit abstracts of proposed talks
by email to
submissions@mathmlconference.org. The deadline for
submission of abstracts is June 2, 2000. Notification of
acceptances will be sent out on or before June 23,
2000. "MathML and Math on the Web" is being sponsored
by Wolfram Research, IBM, the American Mathematical
Society (AMS), Waterloo Maple, and the World Wide Web
Consortium (W3C). Additional conference details as well as
submission guidelines are available here.
NEACT Annual Summer Conference

The theme for this year's conference is Marine Chemistry, and
the keynote speaker is Michael Pilson, Department of

speakers will add their expertise to the program. The
conference will also offer opportunities to attend workshops, tours,
and other events that are available in the Bristol--Newport area.
