Full Text

The development of chemical laboratory information profiles (CLIPs) (J. Chem. Educ. 2001, 78, 444) is another of Jay Young's important contributions to promoting laboratory safety. For the academic laboratory community, and others, this simplified approach to providing relevant safety information on chemicals will often be much more useful than the OSHA-mandated Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Readers should also be aware of the Laboratory Chemical Safety Summaries (LCSSs) introduced in the 1995 edition of Prudent Practices in the Laboratory (National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences). These summaries, developed by Rick Danheiser of MIT, a member of the Prudent Practices Committee, serve the same purpose as Young's CLIPs but are a little more extensive in their content. In addition to their inclusion in the Prudent Practices book, LCSSs are available online at this Web site of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Chemistry Teacher Connection

The "Chemistry Teacher Connection" (CTC) is especially for high school chemistry teachers. For only $40/year, it offers an online-only subscription to CLIC along with membership in the Division of Chemical Education, normally $65/year. CTC subscribers receive access to all articles and supplements from 1996 through the current issue.

C&EN CLICs

Through special arrangement with the ACS, JCE High School CLIC is now able to provide subscribers with online access to Chemical & Engineering News articles that have been selected specifically for secondary science instructors and their students.

JCE Collections Available
Occasionally, collections of JCE back issues become available for donation to individual teachers, schools, or libraries. JCE matches collections with interested recipients. Recipients pay shipping costs or pick up the collection.
