JCE Online has recently updated its list of reviewed WWW sites, and we are seeking suggestions for additional sites to include. We are often asked to add a link to a third-party WWW site, but such links are usually restricted to those that we have reviewed and included in the list of reviewed sites. Our policy concerning links to third-party sites is described in this article.

Peer Review

All submissions to the Journal undergo peer review as they are considered for publication. The opinions of the peer reviewers are highly regarded. This peer-review policy helps ensure that the information we publish is useful and accurate. This policy includes submissions to JCE Online as well as requests for links to WWW sites. (Even articles written by JCE staff members--such as the Editorial, Especially for High School Teachers, this JCE Online column--are reviewed and edited by other JCE staff members.)

Requests for JCE Online to link to external WWW sites are handled similarly to our other submissions. They are peer reviewed by anonymous reviewers and our WWW Site Review Committee, chaired by David Shaw. Once a site passes the review of this committee, it is included in the JCE Online list of reviewed sites.

All links to external WWW sites are governed by this review policy with the following exceptions: WWW sites that are cited within a published article are checked for validity at the time of publication and then linked within the PDF version of that article on JCE Online. When sites are cited within the HTML versions of articles or in abstracts of articles, they are also linked. (These links are usually reviewed by reviewers of the article.) We also provide links to sites where users can find software or browser plug-ins that enable them to view JCE Online materials. Journal advertisers receive links to their sites in our online Advertiser Index.

WWW Site Review

The recently updated JCE Online list of sites includes new links as well as new information about previously listed sites. All previously listed sites were re-reviewed to make sure that they are still pertinent and current. All the sites have been assigned keywords to help identify their content and increase their usefulness. A separate page has been set up for each site and includes the title of the site with its (linked) URL, a site abstract, and keywords. We expect to add title and keyword searching for sites in the list in the near future (Fall 2001).

Submit WWW Sites

We would like to know about WWW sites that you believe are useful to others who teach chemistry. Please submit the site to our WWW Site Review Committee. Include the title of the site, its URL, a short description, and several keywords chosen from our keyword list that describe the site. We prefer receiving submissions via email to jceonline@chem.wisc.edu.

If you enjoy surfing the WWW for chemistry education resources, we invite you to become a JCE reviewer. Put your surfing to work for the JCE Online community!

Chemistry Teacher Connection

The "Chemistry Teacher Connection" (CTC) is especially for high school chemistry teachers. For only $40/year, it offers an online-only subscription to CLIC along with membership in the Division of Chemical Education, normally $65/year. CTC subscribers receive access to all articles and supplements from 1996 through the current issue.

C&EN CLICs

Through special arrangement with the ACS, JCE High School CLIC is now able to provide subscribers with online access to Chemical & Engineering News articles that have been selected specifically for secondary science instructors and their students.

JCE Collections Available
Occasionally, collections of JCE back issues become available for donation to individual teachers, schools, or libraries. JCE matches collections with interested recipients. Recipients pay shipping costs or pick up the collection.
