Full Text
Thank you for an interesting article about how past authors and chemists have viewed Laboratory Balances (J. Chem. Educ. 2001, 78, 434). Years ago when learning quantitative analysis I came across the quotation below, which is very much in keeping with the beginning and at the end of the article.

The other apparatus may be adequate, the reagents of the utmost purity, the methods of the best, and the manipulations careful, delicate, and conscientious; but if the balance and weights are not accurate, and not carefully taken care of, the labor and time expended on the analysis will largely go for naught. The balance and weights should, therefore, be regarded with a feeling akin to reverence, and the balance case looked upon, so to speak, as a sanctum sanctorum.

Chemistry Teacher Connection

The "Chemistry Teacher Connection" (CTC) is especially for high school chemistry teachers. For only $40/year, it offers an online-only subscription to CLIC along with membership in the Division of Chemical Education, normally $65/year. CTC subscribers receive access to all articles and supplements from 1996 through the current issue.

C&EN CLICs

Through special arrangement with the ACS, JCE High School CLIC is now able to provide subscribers with online access to Chemical & Engineering News articles that have been selected specifically for secondary science instructors and their students.

JCE Collections Available
Occasionally, collections of JCE back issues become available for donation to individual teachers, schools, or libraries. JCE matches collections with interested recipients. Recipients pay shipping costs or pick up the collection.
