JCE QBank is an online collection of questions (and sometimes answers) that can be used in a variety of settings. The collection currently can be divided into four categories: Chemistry ConcepTests and Conceptual Questions and Challenge Problems were originally developed with support from the NSF-sponsored New Traditions systemic initiative. The ConcepTest Web site has recently moved to JCE Dlib. Conceptual Questions and Challenge Problems has been a column Only@JCE Online since November 1998. The other two parts of the current collection are described below. All of JCE QBank is included in our JCE DLib Resources for Student Assessment collection in the National Science Digital Library (NSDL). Contribute! We encourage you to submit your questions for addition to this collection. Email JCE a description of your collection. Put JCE QBank in the subject line. Organic Chemistry QuestionsThe organic chemistry collection in JCE QBank is a compilation of examination, quiz, and homework questions used in the sophomore organic chemistry course at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. Answers are provided in a separate area that requires registration. The questions are displayed under topic and subtopic headings as Word documents and html files. They can be browsed, printed, or downloaded as needed. General Chemistry QuestionsMembers of the University of Wisconsin—Madison chemistry department have developed a series of questions covering all aspects of general chemistry. The questions must be delivered through the WebCT online course-management system. They are useful for online quizzes, homework sets, and review questions. Each question provides feedback for the answer chosen, and many require the use of data tables and images that are accessible from within the question via a hyperlink. The questions are grouped by typical general chemistry topics. Within each topic there are 5–25 unique questions, each with 2–20 variations. Questions range from those assessing basic knowledge to many requiring the use of problem-solving skills. A representative question from each topic can be viewed at the JCE QBank Web site.
