Popcorn—What's in the Bag?

Abstract
Three independent activities explore microwave popcorn, the nature of the packaging, and the popcorn produced. The contents of the package before popping are examined to identify unique features of the packaging. (2) Popped popcorn is added to hot water to explore solubility behavior. (3) Mass loss on popping is investigated in a graphing exercise. The role of water is central to the results of each activity.
