High School Web Sites: High School Chemistry Resources

Back to Web Sites Category List

Chemmybear.com

  • This site is maintained by Paul Groves, a chemistry teacher at South Pasadena High School in California. Its resources include mole clip art, animated molecules, information on several different elements, AP Chemistry study cards, classifying and predicting reactions, and notes on two lecture experiments with photos (copper + nitric acid and liquid oxygen). It also offers several links to other chemistry sites such as the ACS Exams Institute, Flinn Scientific and others. (2/2008)

Wilson Classical High School Science Department

  • This site is maintained by Dominic Bosonetta, a chemistry teacher at Wilson Classical High School in California. It includes PowerPoint presentations and tutorials on various different subjects, a guide sheet for mole problems, notes on the Cornell note-taking system, and links to chemistry sites covering topics such as nomenclature and a VSEPR tutorial. (2/2008)

Oswego City School District Regents Exam Prep Center--Chemistry

  • Contains a unit review of 10 topics included on the exam. Includes practice multiple-choice problems, an exam overview, reference tables, study cards, and old exams. Much of the site is still under construction. This site contains an online resources page with tons of links to information on atomic concepts, the periodic table, moles/stoichiometry, chemical bonding, physical behavior of matter, kinetics and equilibrium, organic chemistry, oxidation-reduction, acids/bases, salts and nuclear chemistry. (2/2008)

Online NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards

  • Presents key information and data in abbreviated tabular form for several hundred chemicals and substance groupings that are found in the work environment. (2/2008)

Friends School Chemistry

  • Chemistry presentation topics include: nuclear chemistry, modern theory of atomic structure, properties of atoms, bonding, molecular geometry, hybridization theory, solid state, kinetic molecular theory, etc. There are also class notes, a link to an online periodic table, a factor labeling tutorial, and downloadable interactive chemistry programs. (2/2008)

Paul's Chemistry Lab: Chemistry Links for the Grade School Through Graduate School Student

  • Includes a mix of approximately 30 chemistry links, including Links for Chemists, Molecule of the Month, Chemist's Art Gallery, Virtual Chemistry Lab, Chemical Glossary, tutorials, Organic Nomenclature, and more. (2/2008)

Royal Order of the Mole

  • Contains an article published in JCE (1983, 60, 575) titled "The Royal Order of the Mole". In the author's chemistry classes he concludes the school year by admitting his students to the "secret society". Details of the initiation ceremony are provided, complete with illustrations and printable certificate. The site also includes an illustrated discussion of the (chemical) mole. (2/2008)

National Mole Day Foundation, Inc.

  • Site dedicated to the celebration of Mole Day, which commemorates Avogadro's Number. Includes history, jokes, past and current Mole Day themes, projects, mole items for sale, links to other chemistry sites, and more. (2/2008)

The Chem Team - A Tutorial for High School Chemistry

  • Provides study resources in standard topics for students in high school and Advanced Placement chemistry. Topics include: acids and bases, stoichiometry, solutions and concentration, nomenclature, reduction and oxidation, and more. Also includes sections on humor, photo gallery, and National Chemistry Olympiad Tests. (2/2008)

The Learning Matters of Chemistry

  • Features sections on computer graphics and animations, on-line exercises, downloadable software, safety information, links to additional chemistry sites, and a series of chemistry exercises that use a multiple choice format with instant feedback, titration applets, and a periodic table game. (2/2008)

Chemistry Teacher Connection

The "Chemistry Teacher Connection" (CTC) is especially for high school chemistry teachers. For only $40/year, it offers an online-only subscription to CLIC along with membership in the Division of Chemical Education, normally $65/year. CTC subscribers receive access to all articles and supplements from 1996 through the current issue.

C&EN CLICs

Through special arrangement with the ACS, JCE High School CLIC is now able to provide subscribers with online access to Chemical & Engineering News articles that have been selected specifically for secondary science instructors and their students.

JCE Collections Available
Occasionally, collections of JCE back issues become available for donation to individual teachers, schools, or libraries. JCE matches collections with interested recipients. Recipients pay shipping costs or pick up the collection.
