Narrative

It is sometimes easier to see the meniscus of a colorless or pale-colored liquid if you use a contrast card. When such a card is placed behind and touching the buret and moved to nearly the same height as the bottom of the meniscus, it darkens the meniscus and makes it easier to distinguish the bottom of the liquid surface. Holding a finger behind the meniscus works similarly. It is important that you use a consistent technique to take the initial and final readings.
