These programs have been updated to fix an error in the Help messages of SIR Caloric, improve the performance of SIR Dynamic, and correct an operational problem in SIR Faraday.
Installing These Updates
You must have installed a utility program that can extract files from .ZIP archives to use this update. Two popular utilities that can extract .ZIP files are WinZip and PKZip.
1. Click here to download SIRUPDAT.ZIP2. Unzip the SIRUPDAT.ZIP file to your SIRS_III Directory.
3. When asked if you wish to overwrite the files, type Y.
4. After the files have been inflated, you can delete the SIRUPDAT.ZIP file.
Alternatively, you may unzip the files into a temporary directory and then copy them into the SIRS_III directory. To replace the files on your SIRS_III directory with the corresponding updated files use the DOS COPY command according to the table below.
Program Name File Name Default Directory
SIR Caloric SIRCALOR.BIN \SIRS_III\
SIR Dynamic SIRDYNAM.BIN \SIRS_III\
SIR Faraday SIRFARAD.BIN \SIRS_III\
For example, to update all three files now installed on your hard drive, C:, in a subdirectory named \SIRS_III (this is where the original installation program copied the files by default), from unzipped files stored in a temporary (C:\TEMP\) directory on the :C drive at the DOS prompt enter the command
COPY C:\TEMP\*.BIN C:\SIRS_III
Or copy the files individually,
Copy C:TEMP\SIRCALOR.BIN C:\SIRS_III
and repeat for the remaining SIRs updates.
Hardware and Software Requirements
Programs in Series B of JCE: Software require an IBM PC-compatible microcomputer with 640K RAM, one disk drive, and a VGA or compatible graphics adapter. PC- or MS-DOS version 5.0 or later is also required. In addition, SIRs requires: ¥ a hard disk drive with 5.5 MB of free disk space; ¥ a Microsoft compatible mouse; ¥ a 486 or higher processor is strongly recommended. SIRs runs noticeably slower on a 286 or 386. ¥ A projection device such as an overhead panel or three-gun projector is required for most effective use of the programs in the classroom.
