Windows Programs
1. Problem: After installing the 4th Edition, the program InQual-S will not run. An error message indicates that "COMCT232.OCX' not correctly registered: file is missing. How can I run this program?

Cause: There is an error in the SP 16 Setup program. The file COMCT232.OCX should be installed during setup, but is not. The problem will be corrected for the next edition of the General Chemistry Collection.

Solution:You will find a copy of the COMCT232.OCX file on the General Chemistry Collection CD-ROM inside the InQualS folder. Drag the file icon to the Windows\System directory. The file will be copied. InQual-S should now run properly.

2. Problem: We are receiving a printer error when trying to print from Lake Study and then get a program error when exiting the application.

Cause:The printing error is due to a problem with the graphic of the authors signature near the end of Lake Study's Introductory message.

Solution:All other Lake Study Screens that can be printed print correctly. The temporary workaround is simply not to print the Introduction. JCE Software does not know when a revision might be available.

3. Problem: After running the JCE Software Setup program, superscripts and subscripts are not displayed properly in Window on the Solid State.

Cause: The setup program sometimes fails to install a font required by Window on the Solid State.

Solution: You can install the required font, JCE_sub_superscrpt, manually.

  1. Download JCE_sub_superscrpt.fon
  2. Click the Start button, then select Control Panel from the Settings menu.
  3. Double-click the Fonts folder in the Control Panel window. (If you are using Windows XP, Click Switch to Classic View in order to see the Fonts folder.)
  4. From the Fonts window File menu, select Install New Font….
  5. In the Add Fonts dialog, navigate to the JCE_sub_superscrpt.fon file downloaded in step 1.
  6. With JCE_sub_superscrpt selected, click OK.
  7. Close the Fonts window and the Control Panel

Macintosh Programs
1. Problem:There only one item in the Inorganic Nomenclature menu when the program is run with Mac OS 9 or higher.

Cause: The font used in the menu is displayed differently in Mac OS 9 and above than in older versions of the system software. The space provided for the menu can only display one of the options available.

Solution: Only one option appears, but both are actually still available. In order to select the first option, 1. Formula to Compound Name click the top row of text in the menu, 1. Formula to Compound. In order to select the second option, 2. Compound Name to Formula, which is not visible in the menu, click the second row of text, Name.
