Technical Support for General Chemistry Collection, 7th Edition
The following problems have been reported to JCE Software. The cause and solution of each are given.

Windows Programs

Macintosh Programs

If you encounter a problem with the General Chemistry CD that is not listed here or on the FAQ page, please contact JCE Software.

Windows Programs
1. Problem: When using Internet Explorer 5.5 SP 2 or later under Windows, QuickTime movies do not load properly.

Cause: Internet Explorer 5.5 SP 2 and later versions no longer support Netscape-type plug-ins such as QuickTime and now require an ActiveX control.

Solution: Download and install the ActiveX version of the QuickTime plug-in from Apple Computer. You can check your QuickTime installation to make sure you have the correct configuration for your browser by opening http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/qtcheck/index.html.

2. Problem: We are receiving a printer error when trying to print from Lake Study and then get a program error when exiting the application.

Cause:The printing error is due to a problem with the graphic of the authors signature near the end of Lake Study's Introductory message.

Solution:All other Lake Study Screens that can be printed print correctly. The temporary workaround is simply not to print the Introduction. JCE Software does not know when a revision might be available.

3. Problem: After running the JCE Software Setup program, superscripts and subscripts are not displayed properly in Window on the Solid State.

Cause: The setup program sometimes fails to install a font required by Window on the Solid State.

Solution: You can install the required font, JCE_sub_superscrpt, manually. A copy of the font file is found in the WinSS folder on the General Chemistry Collection CD-ROM.

  1. Click the Start button, then select Control Panel from the Settings menu.
  2. Double-click the Fonts folder in the Control Panel window. (If you are using Windows XP, Click Switch to Classic View in order to see the Fonts folder.)
  3. From the Fonts window File menu, select Install New Font….
  4. In the Add Fonts dialog, navigate to the JCE_sub_superscrpt.fon file, where X is the letter of your CD-ROM drive: X:\WinSS\JCE_sub_superscrpt.fon
  5. With JCE_sub_superscrpt selected, click OK.
  6. Close the Fonts window and the Control Panel
