Abstract
A recipe is described in which asterisks placed on alternate atoms of reacting species can be used to predict organic reaction products or potential precursors for synthesis. The AC rule is based on regularities in the nodal structures of frontier molecular orbitals, but its use requires no knowledge beyond relative atomic electronegativites.
