Synthesis and Variable-Temperature 1H NMR Conformational Analysis of Bis(eta5-cyclopentadienyl)titanium Pentasulfide: An Experiment for an Integrated, Advanced Laboratory Course

The synthesis Of (eta5-C5H5)2TiS5 and the subsequent variable-temperature 1H NMR spectroscopy in d8-toluene form the basis for an integrated laboratory experiment combining inorganic and physical chemistry. The synthesis illustrates Schlenk techniques and use of a vacuum line, while the variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy follows the kinetics of the chair-to-chair inversion of the TiS5 ring.
Our Secondary School editors work hard to distill all the JCE materials to produce a fraction of particular interest to high school teachers. We call it CLIC.
In recent years we have worked hard to better match our advertisers with our readers. When shopping for chemistry education materials, visit our advertisers' WWW sites first.
Take JCE along on your outreach missions. Copies of the Journal, guest access to JCE Online, our publications catalog, and more are available for your participants.
