Abstract
1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectra are reported for a series of 1-phenyl-1,2-dihaloethanes. These spectra have been utilized in introductory organic chemistry to illustrate the complementary nature of these spectroscopic methods in characterizing molecular structure, and as a means of introducing students to 13C NMR chemical shift calculations.
