Abstract
Data from listings of chemistry faculty in ACS-approved departments were analyzed over the interval 1973--1993, to determine trends in the representation of women in the various ranks at BS, MS, and PhD-granting institutions. The results are discussed and compared to other, less complete ACS survey data not specific to ACS-approved schools. Percentage of faculty positions held by women was also analyzed by geographic region, considerable variation being found. Though women have realized significant gains in representations on chemistry faculties over the last twenty years, the data here presented indicate, for the first time, that their proportion of faculty positions may now be leveling off.
