Abstract
The advantage of using an HPLC/Particle Beam/MS interfaced system for general uses is its ability to separate mixtures and identify the component compounds by collecting typical EI mass spectra that can be matched in standard libraries. In performing this experiment, students learn how an HPLC/Particle Beam/MS functions and they also realize how typical EI mass spectra of solids can easily be obtained through the use of the direct injection port on the particle beam interface.
