Abstract
This article is written based on an April 1, 1994 interview with Linus Pauling, one of his last. We questioned him about well-known as well as lesser-known aspects of his long and fruitful professional and personal life. His replies offer deep insights into the workings and modus operandi of one of the most original, creative, and versatile contemporary scientific minds and simultaneously underscore his boundless, wide-ranging curiostity, self-confidence, outspoken iconoclasm, phenomenal memory, commitment to unpopular causes, and abiding belief in the application of reason to scientific and human affairs.
