Abstract
Ionization energies obtained experimentally from photoelectron spectroscopy provide a convenient and simple method for obtaining electronegativity values that correlate well with the standard methods of Pauling, Allred, and Rochow. This approach to obtaining electronegativities can lead to deeper insights than are typically possible with the traditional formulations. A method for calculating approximate atomic charges for polar molecules is also presented.
