A simple experiment for demonstration of phase diagram of carbon dioxide has been developed. The experiment involves the compression of small pieces of dry ice and carbon dioxide gas mixture in a 1-mL tuberculin syringe with the needle end of the syringe sealed. During the course of the experiment, equilibrium exists from between solid and gas, to solid, liquid and gas, and finally to liquid and gas phases of carbon dioxide. The experiment is simple and easy to perform and can be completed in minutes.
Our Secondary School editors work hard to distill all the JCE materials to produce a fraction of particular interest to high school teachers. We call it CLIC.
In recent years we have worked hard to better match our advertisers with our readers. When shopping for chemistry education materials, visit our advertisers' WWW sites first.
Take JCE along on your outreach missions. Copies of the Journal, guest access to JCE Online, our publications catalog, and more are available for your participants.
