The airplane wings quilted on the cover are coated with pressure sensitive paint for use in wind tunnel research. Oxygen Quenching of Luminescence of Pressure Sensitive Paint for Wind Tunnel Research by Martin Gouterman is one of the thirteen articles in this issue based on a symposium sponsored jointly by the Division of Chemical Education and the Division of Inorganic Chemistry at the ACS meeting held in Orlando, Florida, in August 1996. The symposium, beginning on page 633, focuses on applications of inorganic photochemistry in three general areas: biological chemistry, luminescence sensors, and advanced materials.

The cover was designed by Betsy True.
