Because they involve grossly uneven weightings of points, the linear and formally similar double reciprocal Benesi-Hildebrand and Lineweaver-Burke plots should never be used to resolve equilibrium and enzyme kinetic results. In such plots weightings from one end to the other may vary as much as a thousand or more. More equal weightings of the experimental points may be obtained by utilizing the linear, single reciprocal Scott and Hanes plots. The most appropriate resolution is achieved by a non-linear least squares analysis with the most error prone observable expressed as a function of all other variables and parameters.
