The cover was inspired by the molecular structure of ferritin. In Analysis of Iron in Ferritin, the Iron-Storage Protein, Donlin, Frey, Putnam, Proctor, and Bashkin describe a general chemistry experiment in which students explore both the iron-release process and the structure of this iron-storage compound.
