General Chemistry Collection CD-ROM: Abstract of Special Issue 16, 3rd Edition (for Students)

Cover
July 1999
Vol. 76 No. 7
p. 1031

Full Text
The General Chemistry Collection contains all of the popular, previously published JCE Software programs that are intended for use by introductory level chemistry students. These peer-reviewed programs for Macintosh and for Windows are available on a single CD-ROM for convenient access by students. All programs included in the General Chemistry Collection and the general chemistry topics they apply to are listed in Table 1.

This 3rd edition of the General Chemistry Collection expands upon the previous editions (1) to include Buffers Plus (2) and a new program not previously published by JCE Software, Fields of pH by Paul Mihas and George Papageorgiou (see the abstract). In addition, the digital video from Solid State Resources (3), has been recompressed to be compatible with QuickTime 3.0. A new and improved installation program for Windows users is also provided. Some of the PC Programs (MS-DOS) that are not compatible with Windows 98/95 have been removed from the collection.

General Chemistry Collection covers a broad range of topics. Students having access to either a Macintosh or PC-compatible computer will find interesting information, tutorials, and simulations that will be useful to them as they study chemistry for the first time.

Licensing

Purchasers of this collection of software are licensed to install and use the software on a single computer only. This CD-ROM is intended for personal use only; installation onto network servers or computers used by more than a single individual is strictly forbidden.

Ordering and Information

Faculty members who would like to recommend that their students purchase this collection for use in their course are encouraged to have their local bookstores order this CD. Alternatively, faculty members may purchase this collection in quantities of 20 or more at the bookstore rate and distribute them to their students. Of course, individual copies of the collection can be ordered directly from JCE Software.

Hardware and Software Requirements

System requirements are given in Table 2. Some programs have additional requirements. See the individual program abstracts at JCE Online (http://jchemed.chem.wisc.edu/), or documentation included on the CD-ROM for more specific information.
