An error appears in my paper "How Mathematics Figures in Chemistry: Some Examples" (J. Chem. Educ. 1999, 76, 258-267). With respect to the widths of parabolas discussed in Problem 3, shallow wells should be characterized as having the a parameter between 0 and 1 (0 < a < 1). The words "deep" and "shallow" appearing in the paragraph following eq 17 are incorrectly transposed.
