The cover shows a collage of Condon parabolas, a convenient means of displaying the values of Franck-Condon factors for transitions between two electronic states of a diatomic molecule. In the Condon parabola, Franck-Condon factors are shown using a contour format to bring out their parabola-like distribution and the associated interference pattern corresponding to transition intensities. A discussion of the Franck-Condon principle and Condon parabolas suitable for a junior- or senior-level physical chemistry or quantum physics course is presented in an article by Jean M. Standard and Brian K. Clark on pages 1363-1366.

The cover was designed by Betsy True.
