Abstract
A portable conductivity meter and probe are described. They have a unique combination of features that permits use with small volumes in the laboratory or in the field. The probe consists of two graphite electrodes embedded in a rigid plastic tube with a diameter small enough to use in standard 13 x 100-mm test tubes. A moderately high-frequency ac source prevents electrode polarization in highly conductive samples. The output is a 10-element LED bar graph. The device thus provides 10 steps of resolution, sufficient for semiquantitative determination of conductivity in environmental water samples.
