The matrix on the cover shows the pairwise mixing of seven different aqueous solutions. The seven solutions are sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, copper(II) nitrate, copper(II) sulfate, barium chloride, cobalt(II) chloride, and ammonia. The same solution is used across a row and down a column. Can you identify the rows and columns based on the observed reactions? Hint: the matrix is symmetric. Answers are on page 676 of the PDF version of the Table of Contents. The images were taken by Jerry J. Jacobsen and are available on the JCE Software CD-ROM, Chemistry Comes Alive!, Volume 4 (described on pages 799-800).
