The American Geological Institute and the Soil Science Society of America have joined together to remind us that "Soils Sustain Life", as proclaimed on the beautiful poster from AGI/SSSA featured on the cover. The paper by Davies, Ghabbour, and Steelink (pp 1609-1614) emphasizes the many roles of humic substances in soils, sediments, and water, and provides the latest information on these marvelous and versatile materials.
