Abstract
Largely on request from industry, the School of Chemistry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro has reinstated a degree in Industrial Chemistry. A cornerstone of the program is an introductory course in industrial chemistry offered to freshmen every semester. Its main objective is to bring a student's outlook close to that of a chemist in industry and is divided into classwork, labwork, and working as a team on a project with a technical and economic component. Organization, content, and modifications introduced during the first two years the course was offered are described.
