Semipreparative gas chromatography is an excellent technique for isolating small amounts of volatile compounds from mixtures. Given the limitations of the commercially available collection tubes, a new, inexpensive semipreparative GC collection tube was developed utilizing a standard 5-mm NMR tube to collect the purified samples. The use of NMR tubes allows for the facile isolation of compounds from the GC with good percent recoveries followed by NMR analysis of the pure isolated compound. Instructions for assembling and use of the apparatus are provided.
Our Secondary School editors work hard to distill all the JCE materials to produce a fraction of particular interest to high school teachers. We call it CLIC.
In recent years we have worked hard to better match our advertisers with our readers. When shopping for chemistry education materials, visit our advertisers' WWW sites first.
Take JCE along on your outreach missions. Copies of the Journal, guest access to JCE Online, our publications catalog, and more are available for your participants.
