Moving Past Markovnikov's Rule

Abstract

A broadened application of Markovnikov's rule is proposed that virtually eliminates the common exceptions that cause students difficulty. Alkene addition mechanisms can be an excellent case study showing how empirical rules evolve into more advanced theories.
