The reactivity and stereochemistry of coordination compounds is not solely due to the atoms bonded to the metal but is often controlled by intermolecular nonbonded repulsions between parts of the ligands that are remote from the metal center and not directly bonded to it. These "non-bonds" can lead to inertness by blocking a reaction pathway or to decomposition to relieve compression, and can dictate the stereochemistry of the compound both in solution and in the solid state.
Our Secondary School editors work hard to distill all the JCE materials to produce a fraction of particular interest to high school teachers. We call it CLIC.
In recent years we have worked hard to better match our advertisers with our readers. When shopping for chemistry education materials, visit our advertisers' WWW sites first.
Take JCE along on your outreach missions. Copies of the Journal, guest access to JCE Online, our publications catalog, and more are available for your participants.
