Abstract
An inexpensive apparatus for thin-layer electrophoresis is utilized to separate amino acids. This method is especially useful for illustrating the principle of molecular charge to students at the high school and undergraduate levels. Construction of the apparatus and typical experiments are described. Practical lab applications are suggested, and labs appropriate for high school and undergraduate students are included in the supplemental materials.
