Abstract
This article describes the use of a datalogger in conjunction with an oxygen sensor to fabricate a glucose biosensor. Glucose oxidase is first covalently immobilized on an eggshell membrane. The membrane is then used to cover the surface of an oxygen electrode. The detection scheme is based on the depletion of the dissolved oxygen upon exposure to glucose solution. The decrease in oxygen level is monitored and related to the glucose concentration. This biosensor has been successfully applied to determine the glucose content in beverage samples. These experiments provide suitable hands-on experience for undergraduate and postgraduate students to help them understand biosensors.
