Sampling for riverine trace metals took chemist Christopher Babiarz and colleagues to the Baptism River in Tettegouche State Park, MN, where he photographed the water course shown on the cover. Mark Walker is shown (inset) sampling Black Earth Creek near Cross Plains, WI for similar constituents. A green chemistry laboratory experiment, "Aqueous-Phase Palladium-Catalyzed Coupling. A Green Chemistry Laboratory Experiment", provides the catalytic cycle scheme; the reaction scheme on the right describes experimental results reported in "Preparation of Aniline Derivatives: An Advanced Undergraduate Laboratory Experiment Exploring Catalytic and Stoichiometric Reaction Methodologies". The distribution coefficient formula stems from the laboratory experiment "An Environmental Chemistry Laboratory for the Determination of a Distribution Coefficient". Several additional articles in this issue explore the featured themes of green and environmental chemistry.

Photography by Christopher Babiarz. The cover was designed by Betsy True.
