An initial laboratory experience for an upper-level analytical chemistry course is described. Students individually learn to use an instrument and test it using a simple sample by measuring parameters such as the limit of detection. Each student tests a different instrument. After the experiment, the class meets as a group to report on the results of their investigations. This exercise is designed to be a two to three-week part of a one-semester laboratory. The reasoning behind such an approach is discussed and variations to the procedure are described.
Our Secondary School editors work hard to distill all the JCE materials to produce a fraction of particular interest to high school teachers. We call it CLIC.
In recent years we have worked hard to better match our advertisers with our readers. When shopping for chemistry education materials, visit our advertisers' WWW sites first.
Take JCE along on your outreach missions. Copies of the Journal, guest access to JCE Online, our publications catalog, and more are available for your participants.
