I have really enjoyed reading the Journal of Chemical Education: I find much useful and interesting information in this publication. I am writing in regards to two errors in the January 2000 issue. On page 13 (1) under the heading “1950 (50 years ago)” it states that Berkelium is the first transuranium element. This honor belongs to Neptunium. In the article entitled “Determination of the Fundamental Electronic Charge via the Electrolysis of Water” by Brittney Hoffman et al. (2), at the bottom of page 96, the sample calculation has “3 × 10–6 m3” in the denominator. I believe that should be “3.8 × 10–6 m3”.
