Full Text
A series of 13 molecular modeling exercises designed for the first-semester general chemistry course is described. The general chemistry students at Wabash College use PC Spartan Pro on a workstation platform to perform the computations outside the regular classroom and laboratory meetings. The modeling exercises, which are used as both prelecture explorations and postlecture problems, increase in difficulty and in student independence as the course progresses. Students are expected to use the skills gained in these exercises in subsequent chemistry courses.
