Abstract

The objectives of the annual James L. Waters Symposium at Pittcon are to explore the origins, development, and commercialization of scientific instrumentation of established and major significance. The topic of the twelfth Waters Symposium was ion chromatography; three of those papers are featured in this issue of the Journal. They include:

"Ion Chromatography: An Account of Its Conception and Early Development" by Hamish Small
"The History of Ion Chromatography: The Engineering Perspective" by Barton Evans
"A Computer-Based Undergraduate Exercise Using Internet-Accessible Simulation Software for the Study of Retention Behavior and Optimization of Separation Conditions in Ion Chromatography" by Paul R. Haddad, Matthew J. Shaw, John E. Madden, and Greg W. Dicinoski
