Studying Cytochrome c. In the article by Reimann, Mie, Nilsson, and Cohen, analytical chemistry students are introduced to biological mass spectrometry by solving a puzzle: given two proteins, what are they and from which animals do they originate? In the experiment, the proteins examined are cytochrome c from horse and cow. Vincent and Woski describe a semester-long biochemistry laboratory course built around studying cytochrome c.

The cytochrome c image on the cover (PDB ID# 1HRC) was provided by Stepan Shipovskov, Department of Molecular Biophysics, Lund University, using PyMOL Molecular Graphics System, DeLano Scientific.

The cover was designed by Betsy True.
