Users of the “Bowling for Density!” JCE Classroom Activity (1) and the related article, “Discrepant Event: The Great Bowling Ball Float-Off” (2) might also be interested in the 31 MB QuickTime movie of this activity that is available online (accessed Dec 2004) as part of the new edition of the “Hands On Plastics” kit of activities. For pedagogical purposes, the video can be stopped after the masses and circumferences of balls are measured, and before the balls (both twelve and sixteen pound balls are used) are thrown into a swimming pool.

“Hands On Plastics” is a project to encourage teaching about polymers and plastics, and has been generously supported by the American Plastics Council. The complete kit (which includes a CD with the video) is available to teachers for no charge (accessed Dec 2004).
