Abstract
The recent national conference of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), "Crossing Boundaries: Innovations in Undergraduate Research", enabled participants to explore a variety of methods for engaging undergraduates in collaborative research with faculty. Community-based research offers an opportunity to extend this partnership to address community needs. CUR conducted a survey among conference participants to distinguish the essential elements of this form of undergraduate research and to highlight the benefits, challenges, and obstacles of this learning activity.
