Abstract
In this article we introduce the basic considerations for managing pressurized fluids, mainly liquefied and compressed gases. We justify the need of pressurizing gases for transport and storage. We explain why the presence of only the liquid phase is not recommended and the advantages of systems in liquid–vapor equilibrium. For a given fluid we show how to establish the physical state, number of phases, and pressure inside the container assuming the general use at room temperature. Finally, we show how to determine the amount of substance inside a cylinder using an equation of state. Additional practical considerations are also discussed.
