Issue Highlights
The cover features a lab involving the synthesis of plant hormones and their effects on the fern, Ceratopteris richardii. Stilts and Fisher describe this collaborative project in which organic chemistry students synthesize derivatives of auxin-type compounds, and biochemistry–cell biology lab students test these compounds for auxin-like activity. The images on the cover show 14-day-old gametophtyes cultured on medium without hormones (bottom photo) and on medium with 1-naphthalene acetic acid (top photo shown with a molecular model of the hormone). Molecules from this article are the Featured Molecules for this issue.
