The author replies to Silverstein.

O. Konrad and I learned about “scaled particle cavity theory” only recently. We tried to express our initial doubts about the solvent cage model by pointing out that other contrasting articles have been published on this subject. We welcome Silverstein’s letter as a necessary and valuable addition to our work (1), as it sheds more light on this problematic point.
