Full Text
I was impressed with the recent article by Fabbrizzi titled “Communicating about Matter with Symbols: Evolving from Alchemy to Chemistry” (1). Fabbrizzi presented a well-written, informative, and digestible coverage of a difficult, obscure, and confusing era. However, I feel that a critical resource was omitted: M. P Crossland’s Historical Studies in the Language of Chemistry (2). I found this book invaluable when writing my MLitt, and it would be an ideal read for those who wish to learn more about the intriguing history of the “chemical language”.
