Abstract
This demonstration, which could be related to the story of Icarus, uses the principles of both blackbody radiation and oxidation-reduction chemistry to generate heat and fire with a piece of KNO3-soaked paper and focused sunlight. The demonstration offers an impressive oxidation-reduction reaction in a simple and relatively safe manner.
